Cicadas Emerge in the UK for the First Time in 17 Years

After 17 years of dormancy, cicadas have emerged in the UK for the first time since 2005. The insects, which are known for their distinctive buzzing sound, have been spotted in several locations across the country, including London, Bristol, and Birmingham.

Cicadas are large, flying insects that typically live for 13 or 17 years. They spend most of their lives underground as nymphs, feeding on the roots of trees and shrubs. When they are ready to emerge, they dig their way to the surface and molt into adults.
