Sarah Storey wins 19th gold: Paris 2024 Paralympics
Paralympic champion cyclist Sarah Storey has secured her 19th gold medal in a thrilling road race at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Storey claimed the victory in the women's C4-5 road race on Thursday, adding to her impressive tally of Paralympic golds.
The 45-year-old Storey, who has a degenerative muscle condition, has now won more gold medals than any other British Paralympian in history.
She is also the most successful female Paralympian cyclist, having won a record eight gold medals in her sport.
Storey's victory in the road race came after a closely contested race, in which she led a breakaway group of riders before launching a decisive attack in the final kilometers.
She crossed the line ahead of Italy's Francesca Porcellato and Australia's Alessia Mazzonetto, who took silver and bronze respectively.
Storey's gold medal is a testament to her incredible determination and resilience, having overcome numerous challenges throughout her career.
She was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle condition at the age of 14, but has refused to let it define her.
Storey has instead used her disability as a motivation to achieve her dreams, and has become one of the most successful Paralympians in history.
Her victory in the road race is a fitting tribute to her hard work and dedication, and will no doubt inspire other athletes to follow in her footsteps.
